IGEN 3D Printing is also open to non-IGEN students and External Groups (e.g. design teams, research labs, UBC clubs). While the service itself is free, you must provide your own materials. Due to the inability to process payments, we cannot charge by material usage as an alternative.

General Process

After submitting your request, please email [email protected] to arrange a time to drop off your materials. When your request is completed, you may take back your materials, donate to our shop, or store it with us for future requests. Each person/group is allowed to store 1 filament or resin with us for up to 4 months at a time. If you do not have access to the IGEN clubroom, please email us to arrange for pickup.

Material Storage Rules

  1. Each person or External Group may store only one filament or resin/tank with us at a time.
  2. After 4 months, we will contact you to return the material. If you plan to request printing soon, we can reset the timer and continue storing it. This timeframe ensures that we use fresh materials, as certain types like PETG and TPU are very moisture sensitive and can degrade over time.
  3. Whenever the material is replaced with a new one, the timer resets.

Resin Requests

We only accept Formlabs resin. If we do not already print with your choice of resin, you will also have to provide a compatible tank. Supplies must be compatible with the Form 3+. Check out to see what we use.

Priority

IGEN requests are prioritized over external requests. If your request is urgent, please email us with an explanation to expedite the process.
